Overview

This guide covers how to configure and fuzz a CAN bus OBDII connection using a head-up device (HUD) with beSTORM. To perform a test on a real car component, swap out the HUD with the desired component you want to test.

Setup and testing

  1. Connect one end of the RJ45 cable to the beSTORM Client computer, and then connect the other end of the RJ45 cable to the LAN socket on the AnaGate CAN X2 Gateway device (see Connection diagram image and page 3 of the AnaGate CAN X2 User Guide).
  2. Connect the power supply for the AnaGate CAN X2 Gateway device to its POWER pins (see page 6 of the AnaGate CAN X2 User Guide).
  3. On the beSTORM Client computer, go to http://192.168.1.254 to access and configure the AnaGate CAN X2 Gateway device by way of the web interface (see page 6 of the AnaGate CAN X2 User Guide).
  4. Connect the pin 6 wire of the OBDII wiring harness to the CAN A - High pin (pin 4) on the AnaGate CAN X2 Gateway device (see page 4 of the AnaGate CAN X2 User Guide).
  5. Connect the pin 14 wire of the OBDII wiring harness to the CAN A - Low pin (pin 2) on the AnaGate CAN X2 Gateway device (see page 4 of the AnaGate CAN X2 User Guide).
  6. Connect the OBDII wiring harness to the HUD.
  7. Connect the HUD's power supply.
  8. Open beSTORM Client.
  9. Select New Project to open the beSTORM New Project Wizard.
  10. On the Welcome page, enter a name for the project in the Project Name box. Leave all other parameters to their default setting.
  11. Select Next.
  12. On the Basic Configurationpage, do the following:
    1. select OBDII from the beSTORM's predefined modules list.
    2. In the Hostname or IP address box, enter 192.168.1.254 (IP address of the AnaGate CAN X2 Gateway device).
  13. Select Next.
  14. On the Module Environment page, leave all parameters to their default setting.
  15. Select Next.
  16. On the Extra Configuration page, set the Saturation Rate Threshold parameter to less than 100 (for example, 15). Leave all other parameters to their default setting. 
  17. Select Next.
  18. On the Complete beSTORM wizard page, clear the Auto-start beSTORM scan now checkbox.
  19. Select Finish. The beSTORM window opens.
  20. Review the attack vector and make any necessary changes.
  21. Select Start to begin testing.
